Travel to Alaska during the prime season for viewing the Aurora Borealis, when long winter nights offer ideal conditions for witnessing this natural light display. This eight day journey combines glacier scenery, rail travel, wildlife encounters, and multiple opportunities to search for the northern lights.

Your adventure begins with a flight to Anchorage for an overnight stay. Travel to Whittier for a narrated winter glacier cruise through Prince William Sound, where towering glaciers and calm waters highlight Alaska’s dramatic landscape. Visit the Musk Ox Farm to learn about the long running domestication and preservation project before continuing to Talkeetna, where Denali may be visible when weather conditions allow.

Board the Alaska Railroad’s Aurora Winter Train for a scenic journey to Fairbanks, traveling through snow covered mountains and valleys with dinner served in the dining car. Fairbanks serves as your base for the next three nights and is known as one of the best places in Alaska to view the northern lights.

While in Fairbanks, visit the Antique Auto Museum and experience an Iditarod style sled dog excursion with an expert guide. Evenings include scheduled northern lights hunts, offering multiple chances to view the aurora if conditions cooperate. You will also visit the Museum of the North, home to extensive exhibits highlighting Alaska’s natural history and cultural heritage, before departing on your overnight flight home.
